The Junior League of Birmingham, Alabama, Inc. is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

The Community Assistance Fund (CAF) was established to enable the Junior League of Birmingham to respond quickly to community requests for funding of immediate financial needs due to unforeseen circumstances. Upon receiving a notification of need from an organization, the Community Council of the Junior League of Birmingham shall consider each request upon an individual basis.

CAF funding requests are considered by the Community Council at their monthly meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Agencies will be notified regarding CAF funding awards following the Council meeting.

To be funded, an agency must be a 501(c)(3) agency or an appropriate governmental agency which effectively addresses the mission of the Junior League of Birmingham. Funds must be used within 90 days of receipt and must be used within the five county Birmingham metropolitan area. The maximum request that will be considered is $5,000.

In order to be considered for funding, agencies must complete a Community Assistance Fund application.  Agencies can only request funding once per JLB year, June 1 through May 31. Due to the emergency nature of the requests, recurring requests will not be considered.

• Capital campaigns
• Fundraising Drives
• Projects benefiting specific religious or political activities. (The JLB will consider requests of a secular nature sponsored by a religious organization).
• Scholarships or tuition
• Seminars
• Research
• Endowments
• Individuals
• Organizations which have received Community Assistance Funds in the current fiscal year (June 1 – May 31).

1. Additionally, the agency must:

1. Have 501(c)(3) status or the legal equivalent with the IRS.
2. Address a critical human need.
3. Face the possibility of a disruption or termination of a program or service.
4. Have prospects for continued funding.
5. Have an unforeseen need not covered by its budget or present financial resources.

2. Religious agencies which benefit the general public may receive funds.
