All Hands On Deck Community Fundraising Initiative

For March through June, JLE is focusing its All Hands on Deck effort on collecting diapers, wipes and financial donations in support of Relief Nursery families. Diapers are one of the most basic—but often overlooked—expenses for low-income families. In Oregon, an infant can require up to 8–12 diapers per day, costing families more than $100 per month or roughly $1,200 per year per child. These costs place a significant burden on households already struggling with rising housing and childcare expenses, especially since essential programs like WIC and SNAP do not cover diapers. For families earning minimum wage, diapers alone can consume about 8% of their total income. The need is substantial across the state and especially in our community: one estimate in Lane County found families are short more than 5.2 million diapers each year. Through this initiative, donated diapers, wipes, and financial contributions will help ensure local children have the essentials they need while allowing parents to focus on education, work, and building stable futures for their families.
